30 Years of Connecting People with Place
Thirty years ago today, Square Peg Design opened its doors in a small warehouse in Emeryville, California. What began as a passion for design and placemaking has grown into a global practice shaped by curiosity, collaboration, and a belief that meaningful places create meaningful human connections.
Across more than 2,000 projects in 35 countries, we have created the visual layer that enriches how people experience the environments our clients imagine and build. From placemaking and theming to signage and wayfinding, our work is designed to clarify, guide, inspire, and engage, always with the goal of creating a lasting sense of identity, purpose, and belonging.
As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not only reflecting on where we’ve been, we’re looking ahead to what’s next. While the world and the environments we shape continue to evolve, our commitment remains the same: thoughtful design, strong collaboration, and creating experiences that feel intuitive, human, and enduring.

Expanding the Map
Our story has always been one of exploration and growth. Beginning with our first international project in Jakarta in 1996, Square Peg Design steadily expanded its reach, establishing offices in Singapore, Dubai, and across the United States.
Today, we’re proud to begin another chapter with our growing presence in Europe. Led by Stephanie Lessmann, our new Spain office strengthens our ability to support clients and collaborators throughout the region while bringing new perspectives and opportunities to our work.
This expansion reflects who we’ve always been: a multidisciplinary team shaped by diverse experiences, continuous learning, and a shared passion for creating meaningful places.
